PCB's patented phantom powered preamplifier (426A14) boasts a versatile modular design compatible with any ½" or ¼" IEC 61094-4 compliant microphone cartridge. This adaptability empowers users to choose the cartridge best suited for specific tests while utilizing a single universal 48V preamplifier.

The 426A14 package comprises four components: a preamplifier (compatible with 48V, 24V, or 12V phantom power), a ½" microphone adapter, a ¼" microphone adapter, and a microphone holder. Simply add the preferred microphone cartridge, connect it to your XLR connector, and you're ready to begin testing. For applications demanding a low noise floor, opt for the 377B02 ½" high sensitivity cartridge with a 15.5 dBA noise floor rating. Alternatively, for high frequency and amplitude capabilities, utilize a ¼" microphone to reach frequencies up to 100 kHz or sound pressure levels of 164 182 dB. Switch between free-field, random incidence, and pressure field responses in seconds with the various microphone cartridges.

All of PCB's prepolarized microphone cartridges seamlessly integrate with the 426A14 preamplifier. Each cartridge adheres to stringent Test and Measurement standards, delivering a flat response across a broad frequency range. This performance ensures the most accurate representation of natural sound, facilitating precise modeling of other microphones or speakers.

Unlike phantom powered microphones with plastic diaphragms, PCB employs a stable stainless alloy diaphragm that remains unaffected by temperature, humidity, or atmospheric pressure changes, yielding more precise test results. Each system undergoes rigorous qualification and comes with a traceable calibration certification. The metal alloy diaphragm simplifies calibration across the entire frequency range of the cartridge using electrostatic actuators, common precision calibration devices in the test and measurement industry.

In stereo recording, microphone pairs closely matched in frequency, sensitivity, phase, and spacing capture subtle high-frequency ambient room characteristics, even when placed farther from the sound source. This results in a more immersive, realistic stereo sound with enhanced blending and fidelity.
